Willis Reed is a former professional basketball athlete who became famous as a player in the National Basketball Association. He hails from Hico, Louisiana and had his college basketball experience at Grambling State University. In his entire career at the said school, he recorded 2, 280 points and logged an impressive 26.6 PPG and 21.3 RPG in his senior year at the said school. He was instrumental in helping the team achieve one National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship. He began his National Basketball Association career with the New York Knicks . According to many reviews, he instantly became a strong part of the team. He logged 46 points in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers in March of the 1965 season. That year, he recorded the seventh highest PPG average with 19.5 PPG and ranked fifth in most number of rebounds with 14.7 RPG average. For his impressive season, he was awarded as the NBA Rookie of the Year. As a power forward during his first seasons in the league, he continued to record high PPG average and eventually moved to the starting center position. He became an annual part of the All-Star Games of the NBA and made still made records in PPG average. He had two championships in the league and was named as the Most Valuable Player in the 1970 seasons. He was also awarded as the MVP in two NBA Finals, one in 1970 and the other in 1973. He attended high school at West Side in Lillie, Louisiana and college at Grambling State University. He was drafted by the New York Knickerbockers in the 2nd round (1st pick, 8th overall) of the 1964 NBA draft. He was inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 1982.
