Zambrano made his debut in the MLB on June 21, 2001 serving for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. With his 92-95 MPH sinking fastball, he is considered a baseball player having a good repertoire. After playing as pitcher, he was then converted as infielder where he proved to be effective doing decent job holing on runners. His efficiency was however hindered by his lack of control. However, the doctors found a torn elbow ligament during his surgery on May 15 which resulted to his second elbow surgery. On January 30, 2007, Zambrano went into a minor league agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was also given the option to extend for the 2008 season.
