Known for being a shortstop, Tony Fernandez is a retired professional baseball player who played in the 1980's to the 1990's. He was signed by Epy Guerrero as an undrafted free agent and played for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1983. By 1985, he became the team's primary shortstop and stayed on until 1990. Fernandez was traded to the San Diego Padres in 1991. He played for the Padres before transferring to the New York Mets in 1993. He would not stay long with the Mets. He was traded back to the Blue Jays but led the team to its 1993 World Series win. He played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1994, for the New York Yankees in 1995, and the Cleveland Indians in 1997. Fernandez returned to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998 and stayed on with the team until 1999. He decided to play in Japan for the Seibu Lions in 2000. He returned to the Major League in 2001 for the Milwaukee Brewers however abruptly returned to the Blue Jays before retiring by the end of the season.
