Rusty Greer is a retired outfielder in the Major League Baseball. He is currently part of the coaching staff of the Texas Welesleyan University as assistant coach. The head coach for the institution is Greer's former teammate Mike Jeffcoat. Greer played baseball in Albertville, Alabama and then went on to enroll at the University of Montevallo. Although Greer was able to perform well during his college years, the bigger universities only started noticing the ballplayer during his senior year. During the 1990 amateur draft, he was picked by the Texas Rangers during the 10th round making him the 271st overall pick. He stayed with the Rangers all throughout his professional baseball career. He played in the minors specifically the Oklahoma City 89ers and was able to post a .315 batting average when he was called up to the Rangers. Greer made his MLB debut for the Rangers in 1994 and was able to come up with a .314 batting average and hit ten homeruns. His first homerun was during his second at bat in the MLB. One of the most memorable catches that he made was during July 28, 1994 with Kenny Rogers pitching the perfect game. In 1996, he was able to post a .332 batting average and finished fifth in the league.
