Born April 3, 1953, former professional football player, Russell Ross Francis was first drafted by the New England Patriots. This was on the 1975 NFL Draft. Originally from the state of Hawaii, he has a physical statistics of standing 6'6 and weighing 242 lbs. His high school years were spent at Pleasant Hill High School in Oregon where he was also part of the javelin team in 1971. He attended the University of Oregon and played in 13 NFL seasons. In 1981, sources say he retired and then resumed playing for the San Francisco 49ers from the period of 1982 to 1986. Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inducted him in 1993. Throughout his career, Russ Francis had completed 393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns. One of the greatest highlights of his career was the time when Howard Cosell announced him as the All World Tight End. This was during the game on September 26, 1976 when the Patriots had a 30–27 win against the Steelers. Francis amazingly caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from player Steve Grogan.
