Ronald Lavern Hansen is from Oxford, Nebraska. He is a retired baseball player who batted and threw with his right hand. He made his first Major League Baseball appearance on April 15, 1958 for the Baltimore Orioles and stayed with the team until 1962. He is said to be a superb shortstop in the American League although he had a chronic back disease which hindered his continuous great career. He was drafted in 1957 by the Baltimore Orioles but he missed the season because of his slipped disk. In his debut game in the MLB, he played two games and had a 0-for-4 record. According to reviews, he was able to have his best year in 1960 when he has no injuries all season and proved to be a good shortstop for the team. He played 153 games and made 22 home runs, five triples and 86 runs batted in. He became an All-Star Game selection that year and was given the American League Rookie of the Year award and was likewise named as the TSN Tookie of the Year. He made career-best records in 1964 with .261 batting average and 85 home runs. He made 160 hits and 68 runs batted in. Aside from the Orioles, he also played for the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees and the Washington Senators. He also had a stint with the Kansas City Royals in 1972.
