Rodrigue Gabriel Gilbert, simply known as Rod Gilbert, was born on July 1, 1941 in Montreal, Quebec. He is a retired professional ice hockey player who played for New York Rangers. He finished his junior career during the 1960-1961 season with the Guelph Royals. According to many reviews, Rod Gilbert was able to establish himself as a National Hockey League star on February 24, 1968 when he scored four goals in one game against the Montreal Canadiens. A winner of the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1976, his great perseverance despite his spine problems were paid off from that day onwards. He was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982 and bagged the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1991. he also ranked second on the all-time list of New York Rangers in the book 100 Ranger Greats and his #7 was the first to retire at Madison Square Garden. Aside from this awards, he also holds several Rangers records including a team record for the most number of goals with 406 and most number of career points with 1021. When the 1977-1978 National Hockey League season opened, sources say he got involved in as contract dispute with the New York Rangers' manager, John Ferguson. When he was finally allowed to play, reviews say he did not show the same play anymore. After 19 seasons in NHL, he retired from being a player and started a business in Manhattan.
