Former starting pitcher, Ralph Branca has played in the Major League Baseball. He was born on January 6, 1926 in Mount Vermont, New York. He has also played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees. His real name is Ralph Theodore Joseph Branca. Branca bats and throws with his right hand. When he was in Brooklyn, he was very famous as a good starter. He is also a three-time All-Star where he won in 80 games for the Dodgers with an amazing career-high 21 wins in the year 1947. Branca is unfortunately remembered for an infamous relief appearance in the 1951 playoff game against the New York Giants. He had entered the game during the ninth inning and had surrendered a walk-off home run to Bobby Thomson and it led the Giants to their National League pennant. During his 12-year career, he was able to record 88-68 with 829 powerful strikeouts and a blazing 3.79 ERA all in 1,484.0 innings pitched. It was in 1952 when Branca had suffered from a back injury during the spring training. He is currently living at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York. Branca is a member of the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.
