Philip Gregory Hubbard is a retired professional basketball player who was born on December 13, 1956 in Canton, Ohio. Nicknamed “Phil”, he played for a number of National Basketball Association teams as a small forward and a point forward. He attended Canton McKinley High School where he starred as a basketball athlete. After his high school career, he went to University of Michigan and continued showcasing his basketball prowess. He led the team to the 1976 National College Athletic Association Championship. They won against the Indiana University in the finals. He started playing professionally in 1979 after being drafted by the Detroit Pistons as a 15th overall pick. He played for the Pistons from 1979 to 1982 and then moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers and stayed with the team from 1983 to 1989. He also played in the 1976 Olympic Games as a member of the United States team. His son, Maurice Hubbard is also a basketball athlete playing in Ball State University after his high school basketball career in Westfield High School. A family of athletes, his daughter, Whitney, was a volleyball player in Westfield High School. After his playing career, he worked as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards.
