Paul Gibson is a retired professional baseball player. He was born in Southampton, New York and played in the Major League Baseball from 1988 to 1996. Gibson was a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets and the New York Yankees. In 1978, Gibson was drafted in by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round of the MLB Draft but was later released in 1981. Shortly after, Gibson was signed by the Detroit Tigers in May of that year. Due to the Rule 5 draft, Gibson was signed by the Minnesota Twins in 1982 with the condition of free agency after two years. Gibson was reacquired by the Tigers in 1984 and he made his MLB debut for the team in 1988 in a game against the Kansas City Royals. He was traded to the New York Mets in 1992 and in mid-1993 Gibson signed with the New York Yankees. Before his retirement in 1996, Gibson also signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was signed by the New York Yankees in 1996 for the second time and prior to announcing his retirement that year. Gibson is the owner of the Paul Gibson's Baseball Academy.
