Patrick George Hentgen is a retired Major Baseball League pitcher who was born on November 13, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan. Western Michigan State University offered him a baseball scholarship for college but Hentgen opted to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was picked by the team in round five of the 1986 free agent draft and played for the very first tie in the Major Baseball League on September 3, 1991. He was an integral part of the Blue Jays' championship in the 1993 World Series where he achieved 19 wins in the regular season. According to many reviews, Hentgen's finest year was in 1996 when he posted a 3.22 ERA in a 20-10 record and made 177 strikeouts. He was awarded the Cy Young in the American League that year. He played for the American League All-Star games in 1993, 1994 and 1997 seasons. After more than a few seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals after being traded in 1999 and also played for the Baltimore Orioles for the 2001 to 2003 seasons. In 2001, he underwent a surgery and went back in action in 2003 to play for the Blue Jays. He made his last MLB appearance on July 21, 2004 for the Toronto Blue Jays and three days after announced his retirement. He posted a career record of 131-112 win-loss ratio and made 1, 290 strikeouts in 34 complete game appearances.
