Oscar Gamble is a retired Major League Baseball player. He was an outfielder and a designated hitter and went on to play in the MLB from 1969 to 1985 or 17 seasons. He was able to play for both the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. Although he only stood 5'11”, he earned the nickname of Big O from Phil Rizzuto, a Yankees announcer. Gamble was discovered by Buck O'Neil, a popular player in the Negro League and a scout for the Chicago Cubs, while he was playing in a semi-professional league. The Cubs drafted Gamble during the 16th round and Gamble ended up playing for them for only one season. While playing for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1970, Gamble was the last player to make a hit at the Connie Mack Stadium to make the Phillies win that final game in the stadium. Gamble was able to let out his overwhelming batting power while playing for the Chicago White Sox. He was able to hit 31 homeruns and come up with an 83 RBI during the 1979 season with the White Sox.
