Neil Martin Walker plays for his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Pirates as second baseman. He was born on September 10, 1985. His father is Tom Walker, a former major league pitcher. Neil finished high school at Pine- Richland High School where he graduated as a star catcher in 2004. Aside from baseball, he also played as a wide receiver in his school's football team. He also was a part of the Beaver Valley Baseball Club. He initially became a part of the Pirates as a non- roster invitee as a third base rather than a catcher. Then he was sent to the Altoona Curves, the Pirates' Double- A affiliate. He played with the Curves against the Portland Sea Dogs and Bowie Baysox. He was then sent to the Triple- A Indianapolis Indians in 2008 because of his outstanding performance with the Curves. His debut with the Pirates came on September 1, 2009 when he played as a pinch- hitter in the game against Cincinnati Reds . He achieved his first career high playing against Jason Morte of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was not a regular player for the Pirates and was eventually reassigned to the Indians. By May 25, 2010, the pirates called him back when their first baseman Steve Pearce was injured. He then was given the position second baseman where he proved to be an effective player. To date, Walker has played with the Pirates against the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, the Milwaukee Brewers , and the San Diego Padres.
