Ned Franklin, also called Ned Garver was born on December 25, 1925 in Kansas City. He was a former American League pitcher who played for the Kansas City Athletics and St. Louis Browns . He throws and bats with his right hand. In the year 1951, when he played baseball for the St.Louis Browns, he made a 20-12 record. He was also able to post a 3.73 ERA in the same season. The Browns made fifty two total wins and forty percent of them was accounted for by Ned Garver. In the same year, he also led the American League in 24 games. In these games, he was able to make a .305 batting average and a single home run. Up to now, he was the only pitcher in American history to win 20 games and lost 100 for a single team. In the 1951 All Star Game,which was held in Detroit, he played as the pitcher. In the 1951 season, he became the highest paid member of his team with a monthly salary of $25,000. In the year 1996, the US Postal Service made a commemorative postmark honoring him and his hometown. This is also done to mark the 45th anniversary of the 20-win season that he made. During his career,he also played for these teams; Kansas City Athletics, Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Browns.
