Mitch Williams, nicknamed “Wild Thing,” is a former American professional baseball athlete who pitched and batted left handed for numerous teams in the Major League Baseball such as the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, California Angels and the Kansas City Royals. He was born in Santa Ana, California and graduated from West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon Williams began his pro career in the Major League Baseball after he was drafted during the eight round of the 1982 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres and formally signed on June 14, 1982. Williams however, was not able to make his debut with the Padres and instead he was drafted from the San Diego Padres by the Texas Rangers in the 1984 Rule 5 Draft and made his debut with the Rangers on April 9, 1986. Williams' best seasons came in 1989 as a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, where he had recorded a 2.76 ERA, and sixty seven strikeouts thirty six saves. After playing for the Cubs in the 1989 and the 1990 seasons, Williams was dealt to the Philadelphia Phillies at the beginning of the 1991 campaign. After leaving the Phillies in 1993, Williams joined the Astros and the Abgels before joining the Royals where he had his final game on May 10, 1997.
