Mike Webster, nicknamed “Iron Mike,” is a former American professional football player. He was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin and took his college education at the University of Wisconsin -Madison where he also played college football and had been regarded as the best center during his college career at the University of Wisconsin. Throughout his sixteen year career in the National Football League, Webster played as center for two teams; the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Webster was 6 ft. 1 in and 255 lbs. He began his professional football career after he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 1974 NFL Draft where he was the fifth round pick of the team. Webster served as a backup at center for two years until in 1976; he became the team's starting center, where he played for 150 straight games until 1986. Webster made numerous highlights in his pro football career. To name a few were; being both a Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection for nine times. Webster was also able to help the Steelers to emerge victorious in four Super Bowl championships namely, Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV. Webster was released by the Steelers after the 1988 season. He was then signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played his remaining seasons until 1990. Webster passed away at the age of 50 on September 24, 2002 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
