A citizen of Rhode Island born on November 1930, Michael Thomas Roarke or Mike is a known person in catching and coaching. He batted and threw with his right hand. He stood six feet and two inches tall and weighted one hundred ninety five pounds. He finished his degree in History at the Boston College . In the year 1951, he won the famous Scalan Award to commend his amazing ability to lead, excel in his academics and in sports. He first signed up for the Boston Braves in the year 1952 together with Joe Morgan who became his future team mate in the Major League Baseball games. He joined the military and he stayed there until 1954. When he finally played games, he immediately became famous for most sports enthusiasts found him to be an excellent pitcher and a very defensive catcher. After the 1959 baseball season, he was traded to the team Detroit Tigers for Charley Lau. He played with them for one season until he finally made his debut in the Major League Baseball playing for the Tigers. The date was April 19, 1961 and he was thirty years old by then. He became team mates with Bill Freehan , Dick Brown, and Gus Triandos. He was able to play a total of 194 games and he batted an average of .230 with six home runs, and forty four runs that he batted in. He retired on October 9, 1964 and he became a bullpen coach with the Tigers as well as the California Angels. He was then transitioned from bullpen coach to pitching coach. He also served as pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs, St Louis Cardinals, and the San Diego Padres . For three seasons, he also became the pitching coach for Pawtucket Sox.
