Mike Gallego is a retired baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He is currently the infield coach for the Oakland Athletics, which he played for in 1985 to 1991 and again in 1995. He attended St. Paul High School and then in the University of California, Los Angeles. Gallego was drafted by the Oakland Athletics and became their second baseman and shortstop. He was with the Athletics during the A.L Championships of 1988 to 1990. He was with the team when it won the 1989 World Series against the San Francisco Giants. He wasn't famous for his batting however he was a reliable defensive player during his time. He led the Athletics in the number of sacrifice hits in 1990. He was able to make 17 sacrifice hits for that season. He was able to make a career high of 12 homeruns in 1991. In 1995, he was able to make 28 hits. Gallego played for the New York Yankees from 1992 to 1994 and then with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1995 to 1997 where he was reunited with his manager Tony La Russa. He became the third base and infield coach for the Colorado Rockies in 2004 all the way to 2008 before being hired by the Athletics.
