A former 5-time All Pro-Bowl defensive back that played for Pittsburgh Steelers, Mel Blount was born in Vidalia, Georgia on April 10, 1948 He grew up from a poor family in Georgia Farm but his poverty did not stop him in achieving his victories in playing sports. He played baseball, football, basketball and track during his early years and he had been a star of this sports that he played. A scholarship was offered to him by the Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Blount played as a Pro-Scouts All American pick that is both a safety and a cornerback. His Pro- Football career starts when he first drafted as the 53rd overall pick in the 3rd round of 1970 NFL Draft. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 14 years and had achieved victories in the Super Bowl IX, Super Bowl X, Super Bowl XIII and Super Bowl XIV. In the duration of his career, Blount had able to achieve 5 pro bowl awards and won the 1975 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. In 1976, he was named to be the pro-bowl MVP. He turned into a Director of Player for the NFL after his career. Blount had served almost 7 years of being a director, from 1983-1990. His passion for serving the community led him in founding the Mel Blount Youth Home.
