Matt Herges is a professional baseball player and is currently working for the Kansas City Royals organization. Herges has also appeared in the Major League Baseball for a couple of other teams as a relief pitcher. Herges is from Champaign, Illinois and married the sister of Todd Hollandsworth who also played in the MLB. A graduate of Illinois State University, Herges was signed in 1992 as an amateur free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, he started his professional career playing for the Adelaide Giants in the Australian Baseball League which also happens to be an affiliate of the Dodgers in 1999. Owing to his performance, Herges was called to the majors later in that season. During the 1994 MLB strike, Herges was made into a replacement player. A man with a vast experience in playing for different teams, Herges has played for all the teams in the National League Western Division. He was able to appear in the 2007 World Series as a member of the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies were defeated by the Boston Red Sox in that season. After playing for the Cleveland Indians and the Colorado Rockies, Herges signed with the Kansas City Royals as a minor league player but with invitation to spring training.
