Mark Fidrych was a retired Major League Baseball player who became active from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. All throughout his career in playing professional baseball, he only stayed with the Detroit Tigers. He was picked by the Detroit Tigers during the 1974 Amateur Draft. He was able to make his debut in the Major League in 1976 when the pitcher for the Tigers became sick of flu. He filled in and pitched seven no-hit innings. He would go on to end that season with 19 winning games. Fidrych was chosen a starting pitcher in the 1976 All-Star Game and received the American League Rookie of the Year Award. He would be selected for the 1977 All-Star Game as well. He was inducted into the Baseball Reliquary of the Shrine of Eternals in 2002 and into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Shoulder problems forced him to retire. By the end of his career, he had a 29-19 win-loss record, 3.10 ERA, and 170 strikeouts.
