Manny Ramirez is a Dominican-American professional baseball player currently lined up as left fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Major League Baseball. He was born in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Dominican Republic. Growing up in Washington Heights, New York City, Ramirez attended George Washington High School, leaving high school at the age of 19 years old without graduating. During his high school years Ramirez was a three time All-City selection in baseball and as a high school senior he was named New York City Public School Player of the Year in 1991. Ramirez started his professional baseball career in the Major League Baseball when he was drafted on June 3, 1991 by the Cleveland Indians . He was a 1st round pick of the team during the 1991 amateur draft. He was listed at 6 ft. and 200 lbs. Posed as outfielder, he bats and throws with his right. Ramirez made his debut with the Indians on September 2, 1993 against the Minnesota Twins . Ramirez finished second in the Rookie of the Year in his first full season in the majors. He was also selected to his first All-Star Game in 1995 and won his first Silver Slugger Award in his career following the season. On December 19, 2000 Ramirez signed as free agent with the Boston Red Sox. In 2002 seasons, Ramirez only played in 120 games due to a hamstring injury that put him on the Disabled List for more than a month from middle of May up to the end of June. In the summer of 2003, due to pharyngitis, Ramirez missed several games, sources say. On July 31, 2008, part of a 3-team trade, Ramirez was dealt by the Boston Red Sox to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
