Lionel Washington is a former American professional football player. He was born on October 21, 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Washington graduated from Lutcher High School located in Lutcher, Louisiana and took his college education at Tulane University of Louisiana . Washington played as corner back for several teams in the National Football League; the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Raiders, Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders. Washington is the father of Deron Washington, a professional basketball player who was selected in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft. Washington stands 6 ft. and weighs 185 lbs. He started his professional football career after he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1983 NFL Draft where he was a fourth round pick of the team. Washington played for four seasons with the cardinals before he joined the Los Angeles Raiders in 1987 playing for eight seasons. Washington left the Raiders on 1994 and joined the Denver Broncos a year after before joining the Oakland Raiders in 1997 for one season. After his retirement in his playing career, Washington became a cornerbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers from 1999 to 2008. He was, however, released by the Packers following a disappointing 2008 season. Prior to the 2009 season the Oakland Raiders hired him to be their secondary coach.
