She decided to attend Stanford University where she continued playing basketball and volleyball. Folkl was named as volleyball All-American four times, a basketball All-American during her last year in the university and a two-sport academic All-American. She was named a GTE Academic Player of the Year and became part of the USA Women's National Volleyball Team. Folkl decided to play professionally under the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. In 2000, she was traded to the Portland Fire.
