Ken Holtzman is a retired Major League Baseball player. Holtzman, a Jew, also served for some time as the manager of the Israel Baseball League's Petah Tikva Pioneers in 2007. Holtzman played primarily for the Chicago Cubs and the Oakland Athletics all the time that he was in the MLB. Holtzman actively played in the league during the mid-1960's to the late 1970's. Holtzman went to University City High School where he played high school baseball. Right after finishing a degree in Business from the University of Illinois, Holtzman entered the 1965 amateur draft and was selected by the Chicago Cubs. Although he played primarily in the minors, Holtzman was able to relief pitch for the Cubs during his first season as a pro. Holtzman earned a spot in the roster in the following season and helped the Cubs from that season all the way to 1971. Holtzman became popular throughout his stay with the Cubs for his no-hitters. Prior to Holtzman, the last time that a Cubs player pitched a no-hitter was in the 1880s. Holtzman requested to be traded to the Oakland Athletics in 1972 and was with the team when it won three back-to-back World Series titles, from 1972 to 1974.
