John Rocker is a retired American Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for a number of teams which include the Atlanta Braves, the Cleveland Indians, the Texas Rangers, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is a right-hand batter, and a left-handed pitcher. He was born in Macon, Georgia, and currently lives in Atlanta where he started sports at the early age of 7. His achievements include All State Baseball, All Region Football, and All Star Baseball. Rocker began his pitching career in the minor league, where he was a starting pitcher. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1993. In the years between 2001-2003, Rocker joined 3 different teams before he underwent rotaror cuff surgery. Over his career, Rocker was been known for making controversial comments on racism, homophobia, and sexism. For some of the comments made in his career, he was even suspended for 28 games in the 2000 season, but was later reduced to missing 14 games after appealing the decision. Although he apologized for some of his remarks, he continued to make controversial comments in his career. For his comments, even Jay Leno from the Tonight Show poked fun at Rocker for his unusual public behavior. Rocker went as far as defending constitutional rights on freedom of speech for Ozzie Guillen , a former teammate of Rocker, for having made similar comments. Currently, Rocker is a radio analyst for several programs which include Sporting News radio and ESPN Radio in New York. He is highly involved in charity work with organizations such as the Georgia Transplant Foundation, United Special Sportsman Alliance, and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
