He attended high school in San Gabriel High School where he played baseball as a pitcher and became a letterman for 3 years. Named as the Most Valuable Player in his senior year, he made his way to the Major Baseball League during the 1997 amateur draft when he was picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round. Although he was already part of the team, he played for minor league for six years before he actually joined the Pirates in the end of 2003 season. He recorded the highest strikeouts per nine innings in the team with and average of 16.20. He played for the Pirates through 2009 and became part of the Chicago Cubs on July 30. He appeared in 16 games at the start of his career as a Cub, but statistics show he scored no point in any of the games and had 13.0 innings. A positive thinker and a versatile player, he managed to end that season with 75 games and made a National League record as ninth among pitchers with most number of holds with 23 holds. Grabow is a left-handed batter and thrower who is said to hit a fastball of 94 mph. As of May 13 2010, he played a total of 435 in his entire career and has a record of 20-17 win loss ratio, 352 strikeouts and an earned run average of 4.19.
