Joseph Oden Rudi is a retired professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He is from Modesto, California and was born on September 7, 1946. He is an orthodox batter and thrower. Joe Rudi began his professional career playing for the Kansas City and Oakland Athletics. His first game in the major leagues was on April 11, 1967 against the Cleveland Indians. He was part of the A's team that won the 1972 World Series ring against the National League champions Cincinnati Reds. That year, he also recorded career best in hitting. His team also won the World Series in 1973 against the New York Mets. With Rudi, Oakland was bale to clinch another World Series title against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1974 that made them the first team to win 3 consecutive World Series berths since the New York Yankees in 1949 to 1953. Rudi also won 3 Gold Glove awards and was part of the All- Star selection three times. He then spent some time playing for the California Angels and the Boston Red Sox before finally returning to the Athletics. His last game as a player was against the Kansas City Royals. His records upon retirement stand at .264 batting average, 179 home runs and 810 runs batted in.
