Joseph Elliot Girardi, a former catcher of several Major Baseball League teams, was born on October 14, 1964 in Peoria, Illinois. He is currently managing New York Yankees and formerly, of the team Florida Marlins. His Major League Baseball career began on April 4, 1989 when he was picked by the Chicago Cubs. In an expansion draft in the 1993 season, he was taken by Colorado Rockies and played with them until 1995. After working with the Rockies, he was then traded to New York Yankees in 1995 for Mike DeJean. He was a catcher for the Yankees and caught a perfect game in 1999. They were able to get World Series rings (1996, 1998 and 1999). Girardi left the New York Yankees in 2000 and was named to the All-Star team when he came back to Chicago Cubs. His last Major League Baseball Appearance was on September 28, 2003 for the St. Louis Cardinals. After his playing career, he was offered to be the bench coach of Florida Marlins but he refused. He became New York Yankees' bench coach in 2006. He was then named to be Florida Marlins manager in 2006 and in 2008; he was named New York Yankees manager up to this time.
