Herbert L. Williams was born on February 16, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a former professional basketball player in the NBA. Herb played for 18 seasons from the year 1981 to 1999. He is now the current assistant coach for the New York Knicks. Williams was a starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes during his college years . He was the school leader in career field goals made and the second-all time in blocked shots. Herbert was named to the All-Big Ten team as a junior. He was a team co-captain in his junior and senior years. Drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1981, he was the first draft choice. From 1982 to 1989, he had his most productive years. He was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks after the 1988-1989 seasons. In 1992 he was signed by New York Knicks to backup All-Star Patrick Ewing. He played for Toronto Raptors for just one game and after being waived by the Raptors, he quickly returned to the Knicks. After the 1999 NBA Finals he retired from the game. Williams; Herb) played Center-Forward from 1982 until 1999 for the Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knickerbockers and Toronto Raptors. Over 18 seasons, he played 1102 games, scored 11944 points (10.8 ppg) and grabbed 6509 rebounds (5.9 rpg). Williams also dished out 1856 assists (1.7 apg), made 605 steals (0.5 spg), and blocked 1605 shots (1.5 bpg) during his career. Born in Columbus, Ohio on February 16, 1958, Williams stands 6-10 and weighs 242 lbs. He attended high school at Marion Franklin in Columbus, Ohio and college at Ohio State University. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the 1st round (14th pick, 14th overall) of the 1981 NBA draft.
