Harold Percival Watson was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada on May 6, 1923. He spent a 14- year professional ice hockey career playing as a left wing for the National Hockey League. His nick name was “Whipper”. Before going pro, Watson played for the Saskatoon Junior Chiefs, Saskatoon Chiefs, Saskatoon Dodgers, and the Saskatoon Junior Quakers. He made his NHL debut by playing for the Brooklyn Americans. After the team's final season, Watson was signed by the Detroit Red Wings where he won his first Stanley Cup. When World War II intensified, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force but did not stop playing hockey. He returned to the NHL and played again for the Red Wings for 1 season then was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. During his 8- season stint with the Leafs, he won 4 Stanley Cups with them. He was also the leader in points and goals, setting a 26- goal and 19- assist in 60 games record and did not incur any penalties for the whole regular season. Watson was then sent to the Chicago BlackHawks then to the Buffalo Bisons of the American Hockey League where he acted as player- coach for 1 year before finally retiring in 1958. Upon retirement, he coached the St. Catherine Teepees in 1958 to 1959 then the Windsor Bulldogs in 1962 to 1963, giving the team an Allan Cup.
