George Washington Rogers is originally from Duluth, Georgia, and a former National Football League American football player. He played as running back during his college and professional career, and was the recipient of Heisman Trophy in 1980, following other names as Tony Dorsett , Earl Campbell, and Billy Sims. Because of his successful college football performance, Rogers was picked as the first choice in the first round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Rogers was the first Heisman Trophy recipient of four to be picked to play for the Saints in years to come. Jim Carlen was Rogers' first coach at University of the South Carolina who noticed his talent during freshman year. Come Rogers' third year in college, he was spotlighted nationwide as one of the best rushers in the country. Because of his extraordinary performances, Rogers was given Second Team All America Honors by the Associate Press, National Editorial Alliance, and other nationwide news agencies. Until the present, Rogers continues to hold records at the school, and is considered by many as the school's most successful running back. Rogers played for the Saints for 4 seasons, and was named NFL Rookie of the Year in 1981. He's recognized as one who helped bring life back into the Saints team, along side with Archie Manning and Earl Campbell. He was later led to play for the Washington Redskins in 1985 for another 3 seasons before he finally retired from the sport due to injuries. It was with the Redskins where his career shined with a win at Super Bowl XXII, and constant high-end performances when he played the game.
