Gene Hermanksi is a retired professional baseball player in the MLB and appeared in the league during the early forties to the early fifties. Hermanski, who formerly occupied the outfielder while playing in the league, is a left-handed batter but uses his right hand to throw the ball. Born in Pittsburgh, Massachusetts, Hermanksi is a graduate of Seton Hall University. Out of college, Hermanski was signed by the Philadelphia Athletics during the 1939 season as an amateur free agent. However, he was not able to play in the majors for the Athletics. Hermanksi was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers before the start of the 1941 season. After being assigned to the minors for two seasons, Hermanski finally got to make his debut MLB appearance during the 1943 season. Hermanski played during a very crucial period in the history of the MLB. He played alongside Jackie Robinson, the first African American professional baseball player in the MLB, which elicited a number of violent reactions. Robinson was being plagued with death threats and in order to avoid any unfortunate event from happening, Hermanski and the rest of the group donned Robinson's jersey number to confuse snipers.
