Gary Redus is a retired Major League Baseball player who played mainly as an outfielder in the league. He had a remarkable high school baseball career at Alabama State University and was drafted to play in the Major League Baseball in 1977. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League Baseball amateur draft. However, he chose to attend Athens State University where he played college football. He was chosen to play in the Major League Baseball after another draft. He logged .462 batting average in his minor league appearances in his first seasons as a professional baseball player. He also played for the Triple-A team Indianapolis where he batted .333 for the 1982 season. He then joined the Philadelphia Phillies but was then traded to the Chicago White Sox. The latter then sent him to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates . With the team, he had his best season as an offensive player and logged .438 batting average. He was a significant factor that made the team reach three National League Eastern Division championship titles from 1990 to the 1992 seasons. He logged the third highest number of stolen bases in the 1987 season. He finished his Major League Baseball career with .252 batting average and 886 hits with 353 runs batted in.
