Known as “The General”, Gary Grant is a former professional basketball player for the NBA. He was a point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers before announcing his retirement in 2001. Grant went to Canton McKinley High School and then to the University of Michigan. While playing for Michigan, Grant was able to come up with an average of 12.9 ppg and 4.7 apg. After maintaining those stats for the next season, Grant significantly improved during his junior year in college. He was able to post an average of 22.4 ppg and 5.4 apg. He was named as a McDonald's All American in 1984 and into the NCAA AP All-American first team in 1987. During the 1988 NBA Draft, he was picked by the Seattle SuperSonics during the first round. Shortly after, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Kenny Payne in the 1989 draft. Grant played for Los Angeles until his release in 1995. He signed with the New York Knickerbockers and then with the Miami Heat in 1996.
