Frank White, Jr. is a retired Major League Baseball player. He is currently a coach for the Kansas City Royals and their AA affiliate, the Wichita, Wranglers. He is from Greenville, Mississippi and was born on September 4, 1950. He went to college at Longview Community and from there worked his way from the minor leagues to the major ones. He made his 1st MLB appearance on June 12, 1973. White was first disliked by fans because he displaced the then popular Cookie Rojas . He set up a record of appearing in 1, 914 games together with teammate George Brett, thus establishing himself in the MLB. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 1980 American League Championship Series, playing against the New York Yankees and led the Kansas City Royals to their 1st World Series campaign. He also has 8 Gold Glove awards in his jacket and became an All- Star 5 times in his career. His last appearance as a player in a game was on September 30, 1993 and was inducted to the Royals' Hall of Fame in 1995. Upon retirement, he went on to coach the Royals and then the Boston Red Sox. After managing the Wichita Wranglers for 3 years, he worked as a part time color commentator and analyst for the Royals' telecast. As a player, he recorded .255 batting average, 160 home runs, and 886 runs batted in.
