A former professional baseball player, Eric Rasmussen is also a former coach of a few Major League Baseball teams. He was originally named as Harold Ralph Hasmussen but he opted to change this through legal procedures in the 1976-1977 seasons. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in January 1971 after he joined in the Major League Baseball draft. He was a fourth round selection of the team but he did not sign with them. Instead, he chose to have his college education at University of Orleans. At the said university, he showed terrific performances and was named to the All-American team. He was drafted again by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1973. He was a 32nd round selection of the team which he signed and spent his first few seasons as a pro. He played in the Major League Baseball from 1975 to the 1980 seasons. He went out of the league for a while and spent his 1980 to 1981 seasons in the Mexican League. Aside from the mentioned leagues in which he appeared, he also played in the Senior Professional Baseball Association. He went back to play in the Major League Baseball for the 1982 and 1983 seasons. After he retired from professional baseball playing, he worked as a pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians. He then transferred to the Minnesota Twins and stayed with the team for a long period of time. He also worked as a pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Twins and in the Fort Myers Miracle team.
