Eric Gagne is retired professional baseball player. He was born in Montreal, Quebec in Canada and played ice hockey and baseball while he was growing up. Gagne attended Seminole Junior College in Seminole, Oklahoma where he became the pitcher for the school's varsity team. The Chicago White Sox picked him during the 1994 MLB Draft but he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers instead after a year. Gagne first pitched for the Dodgers in September 1999 in a game against the Florida Marlins. He had an earned run average of 2.10. He became a starter until in 2002 when he was converted into a relief pitcher. He was able to save 55 games during the 2003 season with an earned run average of 1.20. That year, Gagne received the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award, and the Cy Young Award. He signed with the Texas Rangers in 2006 following after suffering from a number of injuries. With the Rangers, he was able to come up with a 2.16 ERA although he was still plagued with a number of injuries. He was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2007. Gagne was able to play for the Red Sox during the playoffs. Gagne announced his retirement in April 18, 2010.
