David Patten is a professional football player who is currently part of the National Football League team New England Patriots. He is a former high school football athlete at Lower Richland High School where he played alongside fellow future MLB star Pokey Reese. After his remarkable high school career, he played for the Western Carolina University where he emerged as a superb player, making Southern Conference records in catching average with 3.6. He made a catching record of 59 catches in the 1995 season. That same year, he was included to the All-Southern Conference Team and eventually paved his way to professional football. His first professional team was the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League, which is a minor league team. He recorded 42 yards and finished with 62-55 record with the Firebirds. His National Football League career started in 1997 after a year of rest in 1996. he signed with the New York Giants and after a few days, he was included to the team's active roster. In the 1997 season, he appeared in seven games for the Giants and recorded 13 catching passes and 123 yards kickoff. His last season with the Giants was marked by 673 yards returned and 115 receiving yards. Patten also played for the New England Patriots which he joined in 2001 and the Washington Redskins which he signed in 2005. At present, he plays for the New England Patriots which he joined again after a short stint with the New Orleans Saints and the Cleveland Browns.
