Darren Holmes is a retired professional baseball player. He played in the Major League Baseball from the 1990 season all the way down to the 2003 season. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Holmes played as a pitcher in the league. Before being drafted in the 1984 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Holmes graduated from Robertson High School. After being assigned in the minors for a total of six seasons, Holmes was finally able to break into the MLB with the Dodgers during the 1990 season. For his rookie season, Holmes had an ERA of 5.19. The season after Holmes was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. He stayed with the team for a total of two seasons and recorded a 2.55 ERA during the 1992 season. Left unprotected in the 1992 expansion draft, Holmes was drafted by the Colorado Rockies. During the 1993 season, Holmes finished ninth in the list of MLB saves. He continued to play for the Rockies all the way to 1997. His best year came in 1995 when he had a 6-1 record and pitched with an ERA of 3.24. Before retiring, Holmes was also able to play for the New York Yankees, the Diamondbacks, the Cardinals, the Orioles and the Braves. He was part of the Yankees team that won the 1998 World Series.
