Christian Hanburger Jr. is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He is a retired professional football player who spent fourteen years with Washington Redskins. Before playing in the National Football League, he attended Hampton High School in Virginia and was offered a scholarship to University of North Carolina. He played college football at the said university from 1962 to 1964 as a center and linebacker. He was included in the All-Atlantic Coast Conference and helped his team win the Gator Bowl in 1963. He was picked by the Washington Redskins during the 1964 NFL Draft at round 18. According to many reviews, Hanburger was one of the unsurpassed linebackers of his time. Hanburger played for the Pro Bowl for nine times. Because of his fondness for clothesline tackles, he was nicknamed “The Hangman”. He was NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1972 and a significant part of the Redskins' Super Bowl VII game. He started 135 consecutive games from 1968. However, he failed to continue starting games when he underwent appendectomy in 1977. That year, he as bale to log 3 sacks and made his team win by 17-14 score. He made 19 passes in his entire career and 46 sacks, with 17 fumbles recovered. His last season with the Redskins was in 1978.
