Chris Ford is a retired professional basketball player and is currently serving as scout for the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to going professional, Ford played for the varsity team of Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, New Jersey where he grew up. He played as a guard for his high school basketball tean. Ford decided to pursue college in Villanova University. During the 4th round of the 1972 NBA Draft, he was picked by the Detroit Pistons. Ford is remembered by basketball scholars as the first person to score a three-pointer for the Boston Celtics in a game against the Houston Rockets in 1979. In 1982, the Celtics was able to pick up the championship. After that season, Ford opted to retire after playing 10 seasons in the NBA. In 1990, Ford became the head coach for the Celtics where he stayed on until 1995. He also became the head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks in 1996-1998, the Los Angeles Clippers in 1998-2000 and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2003-2004. During his break from coaching in the NBA from 2001-2003, Ford became the head basketball coach for the Brandeis University basketball team.
