Born on February 2, 1984 in Tainan City, Taiwan, Hu Chin-lung is a professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. Fifth among the Taiwanese MLB players, Hu began his professional career in 2003 as a player for the Odgen Raptors. He is the first MLB player from Taiwan who plays as an infielder. Hu joined the Major League Baseball in 2007 but has appeared in several other leagues before doing so. He played for the Columbus Catfish in 2004 and for the Vero Beach Dodgers in the High-S Ball. He spent the entire 2005 season with the Vero Beach and made a season record of 23 stolen bases and a .313 batting average. He appeared in the 2006 World Baseball Classic as part of the Chinese Taipei team. After that tournament, he went to play for the Jacksonville Suns, a Double-A team in the minor league. In 2007 and 2008, Hu participated in the All-Star Futures Game and was awarded as the Most Valuable Player for the 2007 season. On July 12, 2007, Hu moved up to the Triple-A Las Vegas and finally had his first appearance in the Major League Baseball on September 1, 2007. He hit a solo home run on September 11, 2007 in a game against the San Diego Padres, becoming the first Taiwan-born player to hit a home run in the major league. Spending most of the 2009 season in the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, he appeared in five games with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
