Bobby Wine is a former American pro baseball athlete in the Major League Baseball who played as shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos and served as manager for the Atlanta Braves. Wine, born in New York City, New York, began his pro baseball career after he was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies before the start of the 1957 seasons as amateur free agent. Before making it up to the major leagues, Wine spent three years in the minor league system playing for the Johnson City Phillies of the class D Appalachian League, and the Bakersfield Bears of the class C California League. Wine played with the Buffalo Bisons of the International League in 1960, where he appeared in 154 games. After his three year stint in the minor leagues, Wine made his major league debut on September 20, 1960. In 1961, Wine joined back with the Buffalo team and some parts of the 1962 seasons as well. On April 7, 1969, Wine was drafted by the Montreal Expos from the Philadelphia Phillies during the 1969 expansion draft and spent four seasons with the team until the end of the 1972 seasons where he had his final game on July 8, 1972. Wine immediately became a coach after his retirement. He worked with the Phillies from 1972 up to 1983 before moving to the Braves, serving as a coach in 1985.
