Robert Jesse Pulford, an Ontario-born retired Canadian forward for the professional ice hockey spent the past three decades of his life as the Chicago Blackhawks' coach and executive. Born on March 31, 1936 in Newton, Robinson, Pulford has played in the National Hockey League for Los Angeles Kings and for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pulford was the head coach for the Kings in 1972 to 1973 where he guided the Kings in their first NHL playoff appearance and series wins, and where he was awarded the Jack Adams Award Coach of the Year in 1975. Two years later, he moved on to become the Chicago Blackhawks general manager and coach for three separate occasions starting 1977 all the way to 1987. Pulford carries a statistics of winning 182 in 426 games during the entire 7 seasons as coach for the Hawks. He had 68 ties and romped off with second in rank for the games most won as a coach for the Hawks, following closely on the heels of Billy Reay. In 1991, Pulford was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. His functions in the management of Blackhawks were cut- off in 2007 after he was named as officer for the Wirtz Corporation. Pulford is the father-in-law of former Minnesota North Stars assistant general manager Dean Lombarde.
