William Frederick Hoeft was a former Major Baseball League pitcher who was more famously known as Billy Hoeft. Born on May 17, 1932 in Wisconsin, he spent 15 seasons MLB playing for different teams which includes the Detroit Tigers who drafted him in the 1950 amateur draft as a free agent. His first Major League Baseball appearance was on April 18, 1952 with the Tigers and spent seven seasons with the team. He made a nine-strike/three strikeout half inning in 1953 and became the ninth player in MLB to have such achievement. He started 176 games for the Tigers and has his best season in 1956 when he had 20 games won. Hoeft also played for the Boston Red Sox which he joined in 1959, and was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 1962. With the Orioles, he made his career best 2.02 earned run average and 23 relief appearances. Hoeft also became part of the Milwaukee Braves, the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants with which he played his last few seasons in the league. His final game in the Major Baseball League was on September 25, 1966 and he posted a career record of 97-101 with an earned run average of 3.94 and 1, 140 strikeouts.
