Artis Gilmore is a retired professional basketball player. He played both the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association during different periods of his activity. He went to Jacksonville University and led his team to the NCAA Division I Championships. Gilmore first played in the ABA for the Kentucky Colonels. During his first year in the league, he was named as the Rookie of the Year as well as the Most Valuable Player. He played in the ABA for a total of five seasons. During the five seasons that he played in the ABA, Gilmore was selected to be part of the All-ABA's first team as well as the All-Star Game. He was instrumental in the Colonels clinching the 1975 ABA Championship where he was the MVP. After the ABA disbanded, Gilmore was the first pick during the 1976 ABA Dispersal Draft by the Chicago Bulls. Gilmore played for four seasons for the Chicago Bulls and was named an All-Star for four instances. He was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 1983 and was named an All-Star twice while playing for the team.
