Born on March 8, 1922, Albert Francis Gionfriddo was a professional baseball player who played as an outfielder. His Major Baseball League debut was on September 23, 1944 when he was 22 years old for the team Pittsburgh Pirates. A 5 ft. 6 in. tall and 165 lbs. player, he was then traded to Brooklyn Dodgers in the middle of the 1947 season. He played in the 1947 World Series where he made his most famous act of “catching of a drive off a bat” of Joe DiMaggio in the sixth game, sources say. He was also part of the 1947 Series and helped his team win the game by scoring much in the game. His last Major League Baseball appearance was on September 28, 1947. Reviews say he came back to minor league in 1948. He spent four years with Montreal Royals, the Triple-A team of the Dodgers and one season with Fort with Cats which is a Class AA team. He managed Quebec Royals of Class C Provincial League in 1953. After being replaced as manager of the said team, he came back to the Dodgers and played for a Class B team in Virginia. He spent three years playing for the California League and another three years as the Santa Barbara minor league club General Manager. He retired from professional baseball in 1959.
